My internship at Solar City
My Internship
The internship that I worked for was a solar panel company that designs and installs solar panels on houses. What I did at the company was act like a new hire. I first shadowed the other designers and then went on to create my own designs that will actually be put on the house. The only roles that I had to complete was at least one job, I completed five. And the responsibilities that I had were to come in at 10 and leave at 4. I had a wonderful experience and learned a lot.
My Project
I created 5 different jobs for my mentor. A job is a solar panel design that will be installed onto a house. I first had to find the house, then go over all of the requirements and restraints for the design. Next I created and finalized design over the course of around an hour and a half. This is useful to me because I learn how to use their specific CAD program, and it is useful to the company because I am actually doing work for them.
What I Learned
I learned about the CAD program that is specific to Solar City. I learned how to work in a team and use communication in order to create the best possible design. I gained more time management skills by having to show up on time and get enough work done in the day. It was a great work experience and a wonderful first job.
How This Has Shaped Me
This has shown me possible job opportunities when I get out of high school. My internship has shown me a few subjects that I might be interested in learning in college. I have learned a lot about a working experience and how an office flows.
